Chili peppers have health benefits. There is no question about it. Chili peppers contain up to seven times more vitamin C than an orange. They are also a good source of vitamins A, E, beta-carotene, folic acid and potassium! Chilli peppers have a vast range of health benefits that include aiding digestion, fighting blocked noses, helping to relieve migraines as well as muscle, joint and nerve pain. So the moral of the story is to eat more chili peppers!
Chili peppers are available throughout the year and add a spicy zest to an array of dishes worldwide. For those brave enough to risk their fiery heat chili peppers are a fantastic health booster and a fiery treat.
Chili Peppers are from the Capsicum family. They are primarily used as a spice to add heat to food, and are the basis of other dishes like spice blends, chili sauces and pastes.
There are hundreds of varieties of chili peppers on this planet and they range in color. Don’t let color fool you though as red is not always the hottest. Ghost peppers and Habaneros are not red and are some of the hottest chilli peppers around. The Californian Reaper currently holds the reputation for being the hottest chili pepper on earth! A lesson in cooking with chili peppers. Wear gloves, open the windows and if you are super sensitive wear a mask over your nose and mouth. Heat some oil and add some delicious fresh red chili peppers to it, but beware when those fumes hit you, you’ll be laughing and coughing till your eyes water! I had a number of people and animals vacate my house coughing and spluttering during my experimental hot sauce making days.
